Come to Old Capitol Books on Friday, August 16 at 7pm for an evening of poetry and art featuring Santa Cruz slam poet Jordan Dalzell and artist Mycah Miller!
Mycah Miller is a Santa Cruz poet, artist, and student She was, most recently, a member of the Legendary Collective Slam Team, winners of the 2018 Southwest Shootout held in Albuquerque. She currently attends SJSU as an English major. She creates art as an escape from and commentary on the outside world in a continuous attempt to both understand and connect with others. Her poetry is done on whatever paper, napkin, or phone is closest, and her art is done with various materials in various places in various bursts of sudden inspiration. In her free time, she can be found not writing enough, drinking tea, and riding her motorcycle(s). Her work is a protest, a love letter, and a canvas she has weaved herself thoroughly into.
Jordan Dalzell is a 24-year-old poet living in Santa Cruz. Writer was the first name she called herself and words are her compass. She teaches radical social justice to the little ones in her life-striving to infuse her teaching pedagogy with intersectional feminism and teaching through play. Her life centers around activism, supporting grassroots projects and one day creating a school focused on hands-on multi-lingual whole child community-based learning. In her free time, she spends her time reading, looking up bodies of water, and taking blankets back from her dog, Lega.
