Cal State Monterey Bay is just one of 23 campuses that make up the California State University system. CSUMB is located is one mile from the shores of Monterey Bay, between the Salinas Valley and Monterey Peninsula. Although smaller than most with about 5,000 students total, CSUMB students receive individual attention with an engaged faculty and professors. Three biggest majors are Business, Biology and Psychology. The campus is situated on the former Fort Ord Army base giving it an historical feel with a university setting.

Monterey Institute of International Studies -
The Monterey Institute of International Studies, a graduate school of Middlebury College, provides international professional education in areas including international policy and management, translation and interpretation, language teaching, sustainable development, and non-proliferation. Students from MIIS are emerging leaders capable of finding solutions to various global issues. The Monterey Institute of International Studies was established in 1955, but over the years the Institute has grown immensely by adding new programs, faculty and students to expand its global reach and goals. In 1961, the school moved to its current downtown Monterey location, where it presently occupies two graduate schools, multiple research centers, and numerous special programs on the Monterey Bay.
Brandman University -
Brandman University is a part of the Chapman University System, and the Monterey campus is located in the beautiful, historic district near Fisherman's Wharf. To accommodate the schedules of working professionals, Brandman University has been serving the unique needs of adults by providing students a quality education in the midst of their busy lives. Courses are taught using a blended format, combining on-campus and online instruction and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, certificates, teaching credentials and extended education programs online and at on-campus to make Brandman accessible to all.
Monterey Institute of Research and Astronomy -
Dedicated to research and education in astronomy, The Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy is a privately established, non-profit astronomical observatory founded in 1972. It is located on the Richard W. Hamming Astronomy Center on the old Ft. Ord site near the California State University at Monterey Bay. Its perfect atmospheric conditions in the Santa Lucia Mountains, has made the observing conditions measured best in the world.
